Council tax across Scotland is increasing by at least 6% in all 32 local authorities starting April, with Falkirk hitting a staggering 15.6%. The hikes are blamed on reduced government funding, rising public sector wages, inflation, and water bill increases of nearly 10%.

Scotland’s Middle Class Robbery: Now with a Government Seal of Approval

Are we actually supposed to sit here and politely nod while the Scottish government and every last one of the 32 local authorities mug citizens in broad daylight? A 15.6% rise in council tax in Falkirk? That’s not a budget adjustment—that’s economic violence in a kilt. The same officials who can’t fix potholes or keep public services from collapsing are now reaching into your wallet with both hands and justifying it with the classic scapegoats: “inflation,” “public sector pay,” and “cuts in funding.” Cuts from where? Who’s doing the cutting, and who gave them the knife?

Let’s drop the niceties: this is a systemic betrayal. While households are being squeezed like old sponges, the bureaucratic circus keeps twirling, wasting money on endless consultations, vanity projects, and digital “innovations” no one asked for. And what’s the reward for your involuntary contribution? An overflowing bin, a broken streetlamp, and a condescending reminder to pay your tax on time. This isn’t governance—it’s extortion under a tartan banner. If they’re going to rob us, they should at least have the decency to wear masks.
