Chancellor Rachel Reeves has triumphantly responded to the news that UK inflation has dropped to 2.6%, stating:
“Our plan for change is working, but there is more to be done.”
Translation: “We haven’t entirely broken the economy, but we’ve managed to duct-tape it back together for now.”
Chameleon applauds this cautious optimism. After all, inflation is a bit like your ex—it shows up uninvited, ruins everything, and just when you think it’s gone, it sends a cryptic text like “2.6%” and wants to talk about the future.
Of course, there’s still “more to be done.” That phrase is political code for “brace yourselves, because the next plan involves either austerity, tax hikes, or an economic summoning circle involving goat bones and an old Margaret Thatcher speech.”
But hey, 2.6% is progress. Somewhere, a lettuce just became marginally more affordable. A house remains just as unattainable, but at least you can now think about a mortgage without bursting into tears.
So cheers, Chancellor. Keep at it. And if inflation spikes again, we’ll all pretend this moment never happened—like the time we believed trickle-down economics would actually trickle.
