Inspired (and respectfully reversed) by Chris Davidson’s excellent Medium article on consistency over 40.
Chris Davidson wrote a great piece about how consistency and the Minimum Effective Dose (M.E.D.) are the secret to looking better than 99% of people over 40. He’s right, obviously.
But here at Chameleon, we believe in doing the absolute opposite, pushing your body to the brink of collapse—then soothing it with spa-grade tenderness until it forgets the horrors it just endured.
Welcome to the Stress-Then-Swoon Protocol™: the most intense self-care system no one asked for.
Step 1: Total Body Meltdown
We begin with an enthusiastic middle finger to wellness.
- Sleep Deprivation: Stay awake for 36–48 hours. This isn’t just about looking tired—it’s about transcending exhaustion until you become a being of pure irritation.
- Insane Workouts: Two back-to-back spin classes. Pushups until your arms stage a coup. A run that ends with you hallucinating encouragement from a nearby trash can.
- Nutrition: None. Just the memory of a meal you once had in 2012.
This phase is about full-spectrum suffering. You want to feel like your cells are writing complaint letters to your consciousness.
Step 2: Spa Heaven, or “Swoon Time”
Now that your body has seen hell, it’s time to deliver heaven.
- A float tank filled with oat milk and Enya.
- 14 hours of sleep, wrapped in a blanket that cost more than your car.
- Massage by a former Shaolin monk who now specializes in trauma unwinding.
- Guided meditation where a woman named Willow whispers affirmations directly into your soul.
After this, you’ll weep at the comfort of socks. You’ll moan at the taste of herbal tea. The contrast is so powerful it rewires your personality.
Results:
You’ll emerge looking like you’ve survived something profound. Because you have. The glow isn’t from skincare—it’s from barely escaping self-imposed madness and finding light on the other side.
Consistency is noble. But insanity followed by indulgence? That’s unforgettable.
(Thanks, Chris—this chaotic version wouldn’t exist without your wise and balanced one.)
