Modern Europe is moving toward accountability, inclusion, and progress — while Britain’s still playing dress-up in powdered wigs and velvet robes. If we want a future that doesn’t look like a Netflix period drama, it’s time to ditch the coronation cosplay and finally ask ourselves why unelected bishops are still voting on our laws in 2025. Spoiler: it’s not because they’re good at TikTok.
🎭 Buckingham Cosplay & The Lawmakers Who Never Got Elected
Welcome to Britain: the only place where a monarchy that costs £100+ million a year still lectures us about “financial prudence” from gold-leaf wallpapered drawing rooms, and unelected lords — many appointed for party loyalty or, frankly, existing long enough — debate the fate of actual human beings with no democratic accountability.
The House of Lords isn’t a charming relic. It’s a democracy-adjacent black hole where fossilized privilege meets parliamentary power. And yet we’re told it’s “part of our rich heritage,” like gout or Victorian child labor.
Meanwhile, the monarchy remains a royal unicorn farm — symbolic, expensive, and breeding distraction faster than you can say “platinum jubilee trifle.” It’s a soap opera with real estate portfolios and state funding. And let’s not pretend Europe’s perfect, but at least their idea of reform isn’t “replace one old man in a crown with another.”
If we genuinely want to align with a Europe that prioritizes social equity, transparency, and functioning democracy, then maybe — just maybe — we stop handing out titles like they’re cereal box prizes and start building institutions that reflect 21st-century values.
Turn Buckingham Palace into a museum? Yes please. Replace the Lords with an elected, representative body? Even better. Britain doesn’t need more crowns, robes, and carriage rides. It needs guts, reform, and a state that stops cosplaying colonialism while gutting public services.
Because “tradition” without progress is just stagnation in a fancier costume.
⚔️ Challenges ⚔️
Ready to throw off the robes and redesign this royal mess? What replaces the House of Lords in your vision? Can the monarchy evolve, or should it just… retire already? What does a modern Britain even look like?
