Braveheart 2: Euro Edition 🇪🇺🗳️

Scotland’s EU comeback tour just got a standing ovation from Europe—while Westminster sulks in the corner with its arms crossed.

🧁 The EU’s Sweet Tooth for Tartan Dreams

New polling from YouGov (June 12–27, 2025) shows the love affair is mutual—and multilingual. Between 63% and 75% of voters across Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Denmark say they’d welcome an independent Scotland into the EU faster than you can say “Schengen visa.” Denmark tops the flirty list with 75% approval, followed by Germany (68%), Spain (65%), Italy (64%), and France (63%). Call it the “Brussels crush.”

Even Britons outside Scotland are getting the hint: 46% support for an independent Scotland rejoining the EU, with just 32% opposed. That’s not exactly full-throated patriotism—it’s more “meh, let them go.”

But inside Scotland? It’s a full-throttle EU lovefest. A Panelbase poll (February 2025) commissioned by Believe in Scotland showed 68% of Scots want to rejoin the EU if they go independent. Independence itself sits at 48%, so the math is clear: more Scots want Brussels than want Boris (or whoever’s currently mumbling in Westminster).

Let’s be honest—France, Germany, and Italy rarely agree on anything. But on Scotland? They’re already dusting off kilts and prepping welcome parties. It’s less “should Scotland join the EU?” and more “what took you so long?”

Meanwhile, Labour PM Keir Starmer is busy avoiding any referendum talk like it’s a mandatory Eurovision viewing party. He’s made clear there’s no appetite in Westminster for either Scotland leaving the UK or the UK rejoining the EU. But what happens when voters—on both sides of the Channel—start demanding something different?

This isn’t fantasy politics. It’s data. It’s demographic. It’s generational. And it’s got Brussels polishing a seat at the table—right next to Ireland and opposite Hungary, where awkward family dinners already happen on Tuesdays.

So while Westminster stares at its shoes, Brussels is ready to party. And Scotland? Scotland’s already Googling, “Do I need a visa to work remotely in Lisbon with a border collie?” 🐾💼🌍
