🧠🚨In the land where up is down and red flags are just “misunderstandings,” we now have school governors being told to label concerns about grooming gangs as disinformation. That’s right—thousands of governors in England were shown a scenario describing rumours of “men belonging to a particular religion” committing “violent crimes against women”… and the correct answer? Call it an online safety risk. Because the real threat here, apparently, is not the crime—but the chatter about it. 🫢
🏫 Safeguarding or Gaslighting?
Delivered by GovernorHub, a platform so widely used it might as well be government-issued stationery, this little gem of a training session has decided the truth is dangerous, but sanitised ambiguity is fine. If a student raises concerns based on actual news reports or lived experience? Well, they might just be spreading dangerous rumours, you see. Better flag the child for bad online behaviour than risk offending someone’s cultural sensitivities.
Let’s be clear: the issue isn’t whether all rumours are true (they aren’t). The issue is training gatekeepers of school safety to pre-emptively dismiss certain uncomfortable realities as “misinformation” based on how politically spicy they are. Because what could possibly go wrong when safeguarding becomes spin-doctoring?
And just in case you thought this was some dusty PowerPoint no one noticed, it took a concerned parent to raise the alarm before anyone even blinked. That’s right: parents are now catching what MPs call “shocking and concerning” long before the watchdogs in charge of child safety do. 👏
This isn’t safeguarding. It’s gatekeeping the narrative. Grooming gangs have been a real, painful reality for too many communities—ignored for years due to exactly this kind of ideological panic. So now we’re back to square one, only with flashier tools and more polite gaslighting.
Maybe, just maybe, we need safeguarding training that protects children, not the political reputations of adults.
⚠️ Challenges⚠️
Have you had enough of safeguarding being used to safeguard reputations, not kids? Angry, worried, or just fed up with the same cycle of cover-up and denial? Then we want to hear your take—whether you’re a parent, teacher, or just someone who’s seen this whitewashing before. 💥
