Wind farms are working — they’re just working too well for the grid to handle. Imagine ordering a gourmet meal, then paying a courier to throw it away because your front door is locked. That’s the current state of UK energy infrastructure.

While wind energy has indeed slashed dependence on overpriced foreign gas, it’s now being routinely paid not to produce. Seriously. In 2025 alone, over £1 billion may be handed out to wind farms just to switch off. That’s not a bug — that’s a broken system.

Transmission lines? Choked. Storage? Minimal. Grid planning? Somewhere between guesswork and fortune-telling. As a result, Scottish wind farms — some of the windiest and most efficient on Earth — are sitting idle for over a third of the time, while customers foot the bill for wasted energy and back-up fossil power.

The headline £104 billion savings figure is real. But so is the chaos happening underneath. It’s like winning the lottery, then spending half of it on parking fines and admin fees.

This is what happens when policy celebrates shiny new turbines but forgets that electrons actually need roads — not just flags waving in the breeze.
