A Brief Pause, But for a Great Cause

Read Time: 4 minutes — Best paired with a bookmark and a dash of patience

Let’s get the awkward silence out of the way: yes, it’s been a bit quiet around here lately. But no, I haven’t run off to join a monastic retreat (tempting), nor have I been abducted by writer’s block (less tempting). The truth is, I’ve temporarily swapped blog posts for book chapters—because I’m writing a book!

It’s called The Real Curriculum: What Schools Forgot to Teach (And When They Should Have), and it’s been consuming my brain, my heart, and occasionally, my dinner napkins (where better to jot down an idea at 11:47 p.m.?).

This project is everything I believe in: bold questions, compassionate answers, and a deep dive into how we can better prepare our kids for real life—not just for the next standardized test.

Why This Book?

We’ve all seen it: the straight-A student who can ace an exam but freezes in the face of a tough conversation. The teen who can solve for x but doesn’t know how to name what they’re feeling. The recent grad who can write a thesis but can’t write a cover letter—or ask for help when they’re struggling.

That’s not failure on the part of students. It’s a sign that the curriculum has forgotten something vital: real life.

The Real Curriculum is my attempt to reimagine what education could look like if it prioritized emotional intelligence, critical thinking, self-awareness, and resilience—alongside the academics. Not instead of, but in addition to. Because success isn’t just about what you know—it’s also about how you live.

What’s Inside?

The book is organized by age, from 5 to 19, and each chapter answers two big questions:

What really matters at this age?

How can we teach it in simple, everyday ways?

You’ll find:

• Practices that build curiosity, confidence, and compassion

• Real-life stories (some heartwarming, some heartbreaking) that show what we gain—or lose—by overlooking life skills

• Tools for parents, educators, mentors—anyone guiding a young person

• And questions that don’t just seek answers, but spark conversations

What’s Next?

While the blog will be taking a short breather, I’m still lurking—er, listening—behind the scenes. Your comments, insights, and questions are the pulse of this community, and they’re fueling every chapter I write. Truly.

So thank you. For reading, for showing up, for sharing your brain and your heart in a world that really needs both.

The next chapter—literally—is in the works.

Until then, I’ll catch you between the lines.
