💸🌱While Britain clutches its net-zero virtue badge and bans new North Sea oil fields, Norway’s over there in a wool jumper — raking in billions and sipping ethical lattes made from petro-profits.
🌊 Norway’s Striking Oil While Britain Strikes Poses
Let’s lay it out: the UK and Norway both got a seat at the North Sea oil buffet. But while Britain politely folded its napkin and swore off seconds for the sake of “carbon credibility,” Norway ordered another round of drilling and bought the restaurant.
The UK, in a desperate attempt to virtue-signal its way to net zero, has frozen exploration like it’s trying to save the last polar bear personally. Meanwhile, Norway — that clean, calm, Greta-loving, Ikea-energy nation — has greenlit dozens of new licences. Why? Because it turns out money is still useful in the 21st century.
According to industry experts, Britain could be missing out on seven billion barrels of oil annually. That’s not just fuel — that’s hospitals, pensions, and pothole repairs floating in the North Sea while Labour waves a solar panel at it and says, “no thanks.”
Norway’s not in denial about climate change. They’re just pragmatic. They’ll take the oil profits now and fund the green transition later — with cash, not climate conferences. Meanwhile, we’re stuck preaching sustainability while importing energy at inflated prices from countries with… let’s say “less impressive” human rights records.
It’s the classic British strategy: bring a reusable bag to the apocalypse and feel morally superior as your economy slowly sinks beneath the North Sea waves.
🛢️ Challenges 🛢️
Why are we the only ones following the net-zero rulebook like it’s gospel? Why is Britain allergic to energy independence while Norway cashes in and keeps its eco halo? Are we being responsible — or just spectacularly naive?
👇 Tell us what you think. Is net zero noble or national sabotage? Sound off in the blog comments. Don’t let the Norwegians keep all the oil and the opinions.
The best takes will be featured in the next issue of the magazine. 🧠🔥
