Memorial for young girls, lost youth symbols

Imagine for a moment that it was your daughter.

Imagine her being terrified, exploited, abused, and then ignored when she begged for help. Imagine her being treated as a problem instead of a child. Imagine the people whose job it was to protect her looking the other way.

Now imagine discovering that this wasn’t an isolated case. That it happened again and again. That warning signs were missed, complaints were dismissed, and vulnerable children were failed by the very institutions entrusted with their safety.

As a parent, I cannot accept that. I cannot simply move on. I cannot be told to forget.

These were somebody’s daughters. Somebody’s little girls. Children who should have been protected, cherished, and kept safe. Instead, many were left to suffer while adults argued, delayed, failed to act, or refused to listen.

Justice is not optional. Accountability is not optional. Every victim deserves to be heard. Every offender must face the consequences of their actions. Every institution that failed these children must answer for its decisions.

The greatest shame would not be admitting what happened. The greatest shame would be allowing it to be forgotten.

A society is judged by how it protects its most vulnerable. If we cannot stand up for abused children, then we have lost sight of what truly matters.

For the victims, for their families, and for every child who deserves to grow up safe, this must never be buried, ignored, or forgotten.
