The Government seems determined to continue down the same path it started on. First came the controversy over changes to Winter Fuel Payment eligibility. Now, proposals affecting disability benefits have many disabled people worried about what comes next.

For those who rely on mobility support to live independently, this isn’t just another line in the Budget—it’s about getting to work, attending hospital appointments, visiting family, or simply leaving the house.

To many, it feels as though those with the least are being asked to shoulder the biggest burden.

The Government insists its reforms are about creating a sustainable welfare system and encouraging those who can work into employment. Critics argue that disabled people who genuinely depend on support are being caught in the crossfire.

If these changes leave vulnerable people worse off, then ministers should be prepared to answer a simple question: where exactly is the fairness?

If Andy Burnham has any influence over the direction of Labour and believes these proposals go too far, many will expect him to speak out loudly and publicly. Silence won’t reassure those who fear losing vital support.

A government should be judged not by how it treats the strongest, but by how it treats those who need help the most.

Do you think these welfare reforms are necessary, or do they unfairly target disabled people who rely on support to live independently?
