The Government is more than happy to demand money from ordinary motorists for entering ULEZ because their vehicles are said to pollute the air.
So why aren’t they just as eager to demand money from the water companies when they pollute our rivers and seas?
If you’re prepared to fine the public in the name of protecting the environment, shouldn’t you be prepared to hit corporate polluters just as hard?
Why should families pay to drive into a city while companies responsible for repeated sewage discharges can too often treat fines as just another business expense?
If environmental protection is the goal, then the same rules should apply to everyone.
Pollution is pollution.
So here’s the question:
Why is it easier to charge the public than it is to make the polluters pay?
Clean air matters.
Clean rivers matter.
Clean beaches matter.
Perhaps it’s time the Government showed the same determination towards Britain’s waterways as it does towards Britain’s motorists.
