🏚️💷Edinburgh has paused ordinary council house advertising until 2027 while it prioritises homelessness pressures and urgent cases.

At the same time, the city’s own housing strategy acknowledges that people leaving Home Office asylum accommodation can add sudden pressure to already stretched homelessness services.

So the local taxpayer gets the worst of both worlds:

Pay high private rents.
Pay council tax.
Pay income tax.
Then watch access to social housing move even further out of reach.

This is not about blaming refugees. It is about a housing system with so little spare capacity that every new pressure pushes ordinary residents further back.

If Edinburgh is in a housing emergency, why are working locals expected to keep paying into a system they increasingly cannot access? 🔥
