💸🇪🇺🔥Zelensky is asking Europe for another €70 billion, and European leaders are nodding along as though the continent has a magic money tree growing behind the European Commission building. But here is the question almost nobody in power wants to ask out loud: what exactly are Europeans being asked to give up?

Because this money does not fall from the sky. It does not arrive in a velvet pouch carried by democracy fairies. It comes from borrowing, taxes, budget cuts, inflationary pressure, and future generations who have not even had the pleasure of being lied to yet.

The People Pay, the Politicians Pose, and the War Machine Sends the Invoice

🧾⚔️Europe is not thriving. Let’s stop pretending it is.

Public services are stretched. Housing is broken. Food prices are painful. Energy bills have battered households. Farmers are furious. Industry is struggling with costs. Young people are priced out of stability. Pension systems are under pressure. Health systems are creaking. And into this cheerful little bonfire, leaders now toss another demand: more billions for war.

Not peace. Not reconstruction. Not a negotiated settlement. War.

Ukraine has every right to defend itself from Russia’s invasion. That is not the question. The question is whether European citizens have been honestly told the price of becoming the financial engine behind an open-ended conflict.

Because when governments want money for hospitals, schools, roads, pensions, housing, or wages, suddenly we get speeches about “fiscal responsibility.” Suddenly there are limits. Suddenly the cupboard is bare. Suddenly ordinary people must tighten their belts until their ribs qualify for planning permission.

But when war needs funding? The wallet opens like it has been waiting all year for this moment. 💰

And the most insulting part is the silence around consent.

Who asked the people of Europe how much poorer they are willing to become? Who asked them whether they want more debt piled onto their children? Who asked whether they prefer endless military funding over a serious diplomatic strategy? Who asked whether “support Ukraine” now means writing blank cheques until nobody remembers what victory is supposed to look like?

European leaders love to say they stand with Ukraine. Fine. But do they stand with their own citizens when rent goes up, taxes rise, services shrink, and national debts climb higher than their summit-room speeches?

This is the hypocrisy at the centre of it all: governments claim there is no money for ordinary people, then somehow find oceans of it for war. They tell citizens to accept decline as maturity, sacrifice as virtue, and debt as destiny — all while posing in front of flags and calling it leadership. 🇪🇺📸

And Ukraine itself is stuck in the middle. Good enough to fight Russia. Good enough to absorb missiles. Good enough to be praised as Europe’s shield. But still not fully inside the European club. Still waiting. Still conditional. Still useful from the outside.

So what are Europeans really being asked to give up?

They are being asked to give up cheaper living. Better services. Lower debt. Political honesty. A real debate. And maybe worst of all, they are being asked to give up the right to question any of it without being accused of disloyalty.

That is not democracy.

That is war budgeting with a moral halo stapled on top.

🔥Challenges🔥

How much should ordinary Europeans be expected to sacrifice before they are even asked for permission?

If governments can find billions for war, why can’t they find the same urgency for housing, healthcare, energy bills, wages, and the cost of living?
