When Ore Oduba speaks about overcoming addiction, his story is undeniably his own, and good luck to him for getting through it. 👏

But one person’s experience shouldn’t automatically become everyone else’s reality.

Some people are exposed to pornography, alcohol, gambling or other potentially addictive behaviours and never develop an addiction. Others do. Human beings are wired differently, shaped by different personalities, environments, experiences and vulnerabilities.

The danger comes when we assume that because one person struggled, everyone else must inevitably follow the same path. That’s simply not true.

For me, the bigger issue is self-mastery. We all have impulses, temptations and distractions. The challenge is learning to govern them rather than allowing them to govern us. Your mind should be the servant, not the master.

That doesn’t mean addiction isn’t real—it clearly is for many people. But it also doesn’t mean personal responsibility disappears altogether. Recovery often requires both compassion and accountability.

Perhaps the real conversation shouldn’t be about banning temptations altogether, but about helping people build the resilience and discipline needed to navigate them.

🔥Challenges🔥

Do you think modern society places too much emphasis on external causes and not enough on personal responsibility? Or do you believe addiction is primarily driven by factors beyond an individual’s control?
