After years of arguments about migration, public safety and whether concerns were being dismissed as “scaremongering”, the Government has now decided there is enough of a problem to start giving asylum seekers explicit guidance about rape, consent, domestic abuse, women’s equality and sex with children.

And Whitehall’s visible weapon of choice?

A nine-page pamphlet.

Yes.

Officials now believe it necessary to explain that women are equal to men, consent is required for sex, consent can be withdrawn and sex with anyone under 16 is illegal.

Somebody looked at all that and thought:

“This sounds like a job for stationery.” 📄

🚨 Apparently We Have a Problem — But Don’t Panic, We’ve Printed Something

You don’t usually produce official guidance saying:

DON’T RAPE WOMEN.

DON’T ABUSE WOMEN.

DON’T HAVE SEX WITH CHILDREN.

The Government itself is acknowledging there is a risk requiring education, safeguarding, enforcement and immigration action.

That does not mean every asylum seeker is dangerous.

But it does mean ministers apparently believe some arrivals may need explicit instruction on laws and norms around women, consent and children.

And if the concern is serious enough to warrant action, the public is entitled to ask:

Why does the response look like something you’d find beside the fire instructions in a Travelodge?
