Nobody is suggesting that questions surrounding the SNP, Peter Murrell, party finances or even the famous campervan should be ignored. If wrongdoing has occurred, it should be investigated fully.

But many people are asking why the SNP campervan story generated years of headlines, endless political commentary and wall-to-wall media coverage, while far larger questions involving Westminster and billions of pounds of public money appear to have attracted far less attention.

Just some of the examples frequently cited include:

πŸ’· Β£252 million awarded to Ayanda Capital for PPE contracts.

πŸ’· Β£186 million awarded to Uniserve Ltd for PPE contracts.

πŸ’· Β£116 million awarded to P14 Medical.

πŸ’· Β£108 million awarded to PestFix.

πŸ’· More than Β£100 million awarded to Clandeboye Agencies, a confectionery wholesaler.

πŸ’· Β£40 million awarded to Medicine Box Ltd.

πŸ’· Tens of millions awarded to Initia Ventures Ltd.

πŸ’· Β£28 million awarded to Monarch Acoustics.

πŸ’· Β£25 million awarded to Luxe Lifestyle.

πŸ’· Β£18.4 million awarded to Aventis Solutions.

πŸ’· Β£10 million awarded to Medco Solutions.

πŸ’· Β£1.1 million awarded to Toffeln Ltd.

πŸ’· Β£825,000 awarded to MGP Advisory.

Questions were also raised about the VIP Lane procurement process and contracts awarded to businesses with political connections or little previous experience supplying PPE.

The point is not that the SNP should escape scrutiny.

The point is that if a campervan can dominate the news cycle for years, why don’t questions involving billions of pounds of taxpayer money receive the same level of outrage, investigation and media obsession?

One story became a national fixation.

The other involved eye-watering sums of public money.

That’s the comparison many voters are making.
